Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, the Italo-Uruguayan sculptor, graphic artist and architectural design has been living in Italy and Spain for several years. He is an artist to the fullest and widest extent of the word, and is indubitably and unquestionably an architect of birth, which is possibly one of the most important and interesting features characterising a human being, if that is supplemented with artistic quality, an innovative mind, humility and creative capacity, mastering the profession fully. Naturally affable, circumspect, special and different in many respects from all other fellow professionals, he is driven by vocation and feels at ease with himself, which is of the essence when devoting oneself to such a difficult task as art, in which he is always successful. He is a born researcher, and his mind is bent on preparing and trying to fashion something different every second of the day. That is called artistic reasoning, which unfortunately is within reach of a chosen few and Roberto is, without any doubt whatsoever, among them. Throughout his extensive career he has touched a thousand and one different elements for his sculptures, giving them shape and, most importantly, life, but at present he is blending in all his works gems or "natural crystals" with Murano glass in what is truly a show of beauty and genius, as the great Murano masters. Roberto brings out the entire colour range, shines, transparencies, movements and so a thousand and one details, creating an atmosphere about him, and working on different planes with precision and great forcefulness. His sculptures are sober, slender, and he is truly a master of three-dimensionality, fashioning human figures within amazing figurative abstract expressionism. His works are absolutely eye-catching, with different nuances, depending on the angle at which the same item is viewed. His shapes and colours are diverse, bursting with light and colour, creating optical illusion, affording movement and particularly overall harmony and balance and, very importantly, anyone who can experience the pleasure and delight of standing before one of these sculptures develops a different feeling and sense, for he succeeds in stirring in the mind something sublime and marvellous, making contemplation truly a fruition. Before each of his graphic or sculptural works are completed and finished, prior meticulous work is required, and so are many sketches made and notes taken, and the works are created and measured both manually and by computer, leaving nothing to chance. Only a hint of his art, in the case of sculptures, is left to firing, which is doubtless also wise as nature is. Aguerre is nowadays indubitably the most original sculptor we can find working Murano glass, given his creative capacity in blending it with precious stones - gems of many varieties - with a very personal and characteristic style. Aguerre has his graphic works and sculptures permanently exhibited in the country and land where glass was born and I may venture to say that he will go down in history as Gaspar Lehmann, George Ravenscroft, Thomas Webb, Dominik Biemann, Louis Comfort Tiffany, René Lalique and many others have before him. Already in existence around 1500bc, glass is currently a moving, eye-catching material. Glass is currently used for anything from necklaces to glass windows, but Aguerre’s sculptures are purely symbolic of beauty made of Murano glass. José Luis Marchante Araque – Art Critic
